From Self-Employed to Business Owner….

Recently I have been soaking up the teachings of Kim Kiyosaki in the book “Rich Woman”. And just the other day I found an old CD in Craig’s desk drawers of an interview with Robert Kiyosaki, “Rich People, Poor Plan”. I snatched it up and I decided to pop it in my car stereo and listen while making my usual 30 min. drive into town.
In the interview he was explaining the differences between the quadrants. Some of you may know of them, however if you do not, they are E/ S/ B & I; aka Employee, Self-Employed, Business Owner and Investor; to find out more about these quadrants read “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, an absolute must if you are a business owner, self-employed, employee or investor.
Now I have known about these quadrants for years, for as the first time I read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” was about 5 ½ years ago, right about the time I journeyed into becoming a business owner and starting my first coaching practice; or so I thought I was a business owner…I was simply the E, learning how to be an S.
You know how when you listen, watch or read something more than once, twice or even three times; you pick up different things each time? Well, sure enough that is what continues to happen as I am exposed to Kim and Robert Kiyosaki’s work.
Recently when I had read “The Business School for People Who like Helping People”, I finally realized I had traveled the mindsets from E to S over the last 5 years but was still wavering a bit from S to B. All the while my passion in life was to become a B and, an I.
After completing the 91 day Rubicon Results Program with Pat Finn, something clicked for me and I truly got the mindset shift I was seeking that would shift me from S to B. Let me give you a little background on these two quadrants…
When you are S, aka Self Employed (which by the way is not a bad place to be, simply a choice), you are the only person that can keep the business afloat, you are the Lone Ranger and most S folks are afraid to let anyone else do the work because they feel that others will not get the job done. Here is one more thing, if anything ever happens to you and you stop working, guess what? You stop making money!! It is known that being S is one of the most DIFFICULT quadrants to be in, as well A LOT of hard work.
The difference between S & B; B, AKA business, are the SYSTEMS!! This was the one thing my business coaches kept trying to teach me when I had my Women Into Action Coaching Practice and the Simply Seductress Workshops, however at that time what I constantly struggled with was finding the time, energy and money to build these systems, because I was stuck in the mindset of having DO I T ALL myself; teaching, marketing, teaching, marketing, teaching, and marketing… it seemed those two things along with the consuming admin and trying to have some what of a life, consumed all my time, energy and money. And as we all know, when women are low on energy, what sets in? Depression, low self-esteem and all the other emotional baggage attached with it.
When you are in the B quadrant, you have SYSTEMS and a TEAM working for you and with you. The beauty of being a true Business owner is you can step away from the business and still make money. Why? Because your business will eventually get to a point of generating residual income. And when your systems and teams are running like well oiled machines, you can then consider and explore new business opportunities! Because you now have the time, energy and money to do so!! I LOVE this concept; even if it did take me a few years to learn
Hence, this is where Investments come into radical play; a topic for another time…
There is the one key pitfall to being a Business Owner that took me years to learn… being a business owner is NOT a “Get Rich Quick” solution. Being a business owner has delayed gratification, not instant. You must build your business one brick at a time. Knowing this and finally accepting it on all levels of my cellular being is what has made my latest career ventures and business choices well worth it. This is a very exciting time and I am so excited for the future!
So where am I going with all of this?
After reading “Rich Woman” which is, as I mentioned a MUST read, and then listening to the “Poor Plan” CD, I was hearing all of the information from a new mindset and a new pair of sunglasses (Thank you Rubicon!). I realized that when I took that big step in investing in World Ventures just a few short months ago; I was actually taking that next step into this new mindset and a new chapter in my career that will forever change my future as I had known it.
Now looking at my World Ventures business, it makes perfect and total sense!! The business model, the business SYSTEMS, and the business tools are all packaged into one simple investment purchase. There was NOTHING I had to spend on marketing, I did not have to build the platform from the ground up, I did not have to build a site; it was all right there in place. I simply needed to buy the key and start the engine…..VaVaVrooom….
From here, I simply keep the engine, tuned, oiled and steam cleaned from time to time. And while doing all this, I keep asking people if they would like to test drive my new vehicle and those that do, they either love the ride or not. Those that love the ride have joined me by investing in their own World Ventures vehicles; and we have been having a blast supporting each other in building our teams!
Does this mean I am giving up on my last 5 years of building a coaching practice? No way!! I am still building a team and get to coach them every day. I’m also simply continuing my education in life, expanding my ideas and thoughts and staying open to what the Universe has in store for me. It is the divine unfolding and the enjoyment of the process that makes it all worth it (and yes, I know that is not always easy to do ;).
While I grow my business’s, I will keep you posted on my continued discoveries and growth and as I continue to build more systems and master each one, well….the skies the limit and I look forward to seeing all of you there with me; building and fine tuning our own systems in life!
Peace and blessings,
Tara

Hi Tara,
How are you? It's been a while since we've connected. I loved this post. It's like you were looking into my life. I'm an “S” that somehow cannot make the shif to “B”. I get systems, but shifting the head there is a-whole-nother process.
I looked into the Rich/Poor phenom and read some negitive rewiews. What's your hit on that?
Thanks for sharing this knowledge. It's given me a good kick where i need it.
Love,
Miles
